Down Home Acres, Oley PA
A little bit about Paul, Hana and Down Home Acres... A small scale sustainable and organically based farm.
Paul is a local to Berks County PA, growing up around the Boyertown area as well as in State College. He earned a BA in Geography with a concentration in environmental science from The University of Kutztown. During college he worked as an intern at the renowned Rodale Institute and continued to practice his passion for agriculture working 2 seasons at Eckerton Hill Farm under Tim Stark. Hana is a native to Upstate New York, growing up in the Catskill Mountain valleys where living sustainable was deeply rooted in her beliefs. She studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology earning an AAS in Retail Management and furthered her education at Syracuse University, earning a BS in Retail Management with a concentration in Hospitality. Hana began setting up a Farm Catskills booth at the Wall Street, Andaz Farmers Market in Manhattan, selling artisan cheese from local farms and it just so happened that Paul was selling heirloom tomatoes for Eckerton Hill Farm the next booth over. They discovered they both had the same passion for starting up a small organic farm and decided they would do it together...and that is how Down Home Acres began... Both Paul and Hana have long standing interests in growing and learning more about heirloom varieties of fruits and vegetables and will be selling different varieties on market days and through our CSA. In addition to our CSA we will be selling our delicious produce at the Andaz Wall Street Farmers Market located at the intersection of Wall and Water Street in downtown Manhattan, the Dickinson Park Farmers Market in South Philadelphia near Tasker St, and Collegeville, PA. 2012 will be our 2nd growing season and we look forward to welcoming back our first year supporters and meeting new people who love good fresh food. See you all at market Spring 2012!
